Southport Pleasureland
Southport has its own small attractions and rides near the sea front. It has a revamp recently and popular with locals for the rides and events it usually has on. If you’ve got some spare time head near the marine lake and a short walk round will lead you straight to the funfair.
Marine lake
This is a man-made lake which is near the heart of the towns centre. It has several attractions open in the summer months including paddle swans, small engine boats and if you’re feeling risky a jet ski! The lake is host to small islands and leads around the town towards the beach front. It is still popular with tourists, although it is quieter since the pier was closed a few years ago.
Victoria Park
This is the main town park which hosts most of Southports events such as musical firework, Car shows and more recently small concerts. It is a dog friendly park where they can run free, enjoying small ponds and luscious green grass. Dad’s favourite for when he visits!
Hesketh Park
If you want something a little further from the hustle and bustle of town, you have one of our favourite parks closer to home. Here you will find quiet spots for sunbathing, ducks and squirrels and a hill which features an observatory which the whole time I’ve lived in Southport have never seen open. This is an easy place for a stroll with the locals, a kids park nearby and overall a genuinely lovely place to have close by.
Churchtown Botanical Gardens
This is a little further out from Southport centre but is a lovely park to walk around. It features a popular cafe, bird sanctuary and lots of little bridges and walkways to explore. This is a lovely little park to explore if you just want somewhere nice to grab a cuppa and bask amongst the summer blooms. Leading up to the park are many quaint little stores and pubs which are great quality and price!
Liverpool city
Southport has some of the best links to Liverpool city centre! About an hour away it’s a direct link to one of the friendliest cities in the uk. Go meet a friendly Scouser and enjoy some chicken, chips and a can of coke in one of their many many pubs. I think you can almost do a tour around Liverpool by following the Gregg signs. Seriously though, there is always something going on here and many activities you can do for free such as museums, exploring the waterfront of the docks or if you want to splurge go shopping in some of it many, many stores.
Manchester City
If you’re looking for a true adventure whilst you’re visiting, then there is always Manchester! Again a direct route to the city centre, looking about an hour and a half journey. It’s big. Everything is big. Manchester is still relatively easy to navigate by foot and has many free museums and art galleries. It hosts some of the quirkiest stores around such as Afflecks Palace which is stories high of individual traders of niche items.
There are many other quirky things to visit such as Crosby beach where the bronze statues stand, Formby beach which is a local hot spot for pale English folk to get sunburnt on its beautiful sand dunes, or woodvale/ Formby woodland areas which are popular with dog walkers and picnickers. There’s so much to explore and almost every corner has a convenience store, pub or cafe. We hope you enjoy your stay whilst visiting
